We are SCIENTISTS!
Science is taking the place of our traditional writing workshop time, but during science our classroom actually looks a lot like writers workshop! We are composing a science journal piece by piece that holds all of our notes, observations, recordings, illustrations, and explanations of our learning. Our journal is the living record of all the investigations that we have done and there is a need for us to record it so that others can discover what we have found out. Scientific writing is yet another great opportunity for us to share our learning through writing.

Martin Luther King Jr. Assembly
This is one of our school's treasured assemblies. It is co-created and planned by our 5th grade leader and a time where the whole school gathers to learn how MLK's message is alive and what racial inequality looks like in our world today. Here at QAE, it's not just about the history. We aren't just discussing racial segregation in the past. We are bringing to light what that looks like for this generation of students and what it looks like in their own city. If you would like to keep having these relevant discussions of race and equity, here are some resources. In addition to these kid-resources, our staff is also digging deeper into our own racial biases, privilege, how we can better serve our students of color, and how we can have courageous discussions about race with all students during this next quarter. We are partaking in a common book group using the book, "waking up white, and finding myself in the story of race" by Debbie Irving. You are welcome to join in spirit by reading alongside us. Sometimes it is just great to know that there are others reading with you and sharing a common experience. |
